Round 2 (53): DeMarvin Leal, DL, Texas A&M

Travis Jones might be the dream pick here in the second round, but the closer we get to draft day, the more I feel he’s going in the first round. But that doesn’t mean the Packers can’t continue to build their defensive line at No. 53.

DeMarvin Leal out of Texas A&M would be a great addition in the second round.

NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks has Leal second in his defensive tackle rankings, behind only Jordan Davis. Leal is ranked ahead of Devonte Wyatt and Travis Jones.

“Leal is an active interior defender with outstanding athleticism and play-making ability,” Brooks wrote.

Leal offers a lot as a pass rusher. He had an impressive 8.5 sacks in his final year at Texas A&M. He also made 12.5 tackles for loss.

While fixing the wide receiver position is a priority in this mock draft, so is building a dominant defense. Joe Barry’s unit is already loaded with talent. With a few smart additions, the Packers’ defense can be among the league’s best in 2022.

Leal would join Jarran Reed as the two new additions along the defensive line, joining Pro Bowler Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry, and second-year TJ Slaton.

A lot of talent and depth there.
