DK Metcalf, WR

Speculation regarding a DK Metcalf trade has certainly cooled down in recent weeks, leading many to believe the Pro Bowl wide receiver will be staying with the Seattle Seahawks.

However, it’s easy to see why a deal could make sense for both the Seahawks and Packers.

Seattle effectively hit the reset button by trading away star quarterback Russell Wilson and releasing All-Pro inside linebacker Bobby Wagner. There is now uncertainty at the quarterback position.

It could take at least a few seasons for the Seahawks to get back into contention in one of the NFL’s toughest divisions.

Metcalf is one of the Seahawks’ best players but is entering a contract year. At some point in the near future, Seattle will have to pay Metcalf. His new deal should be in the same range as the contracts Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill signed this offseason.

Perhaps the Seahawks get a new deal done with Metcalf. But if they don’t, Seattle may be forced to use the franchise tag next offseason to avoid losing him in free agency.

For a rebuilding team, maybe a trade from the Packers could make sense.

A recent article by ESPN saw reporters put together realistic trade packages for Metcalf. Rob Demovsky had the Packers sending picks in the first and fourth rounds to the Seahawks.

That would be a fair offer. Green Bay gets a star WR1. Seattle gets two picks including a first-rounder to help rebuild.

Will it happen? Probably not, but a deal could make sense for both teams.
