With the emergence of first-year Eric Stokes and in the in-season addition of Rasul Douglas, Kevin King saw his snap counts decline throughout 2021.

It comes as no surprise that King hasn’t been re-signed. It was time for the Packers to move on and for King to get a fresh start somewhere else.

King has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career in Green Bay, missing a total of 30 regular season games in five seasons. Outside of 2019, when he only missed one game, King has missed at least five games every other year.

His coverage statistics have also declined.

According to Pro Football Reference, King allowed a completion percentage of 63.2 and a passer rating of 96.2 in his coverage in 2020. He then struggled in the NFC title game loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

His numbers were even worse last season. King allowed a completion percentage of 71.4 and a passer rating of 108.9 in 2021.

Had King returned this season, it would have been as a backup on the outside behind the Packers’ top three of Jaire Alexander, Stokes, and Douglas.

One area Green Bay could strengthen is at slot corner, but this isn’t a strength of King’s game.

When healthy, the former second-round pick can help a team in need of a cornerback. But it was time for the Packers to move on.
