8. 2012

Green Bay’s 2012 team was good, but not great.

Statistically, Rodgers had another great year with 4,295 yards, 39 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

Green Bay’s offense ranked 13th. The team had no running backs or wide receivers hit 1,000 yards. The defense ranked 11th.

The Packers went 11-5 and won the NFC North, then eliminated the Minnesota Vikings in the wild-card round. Their season ended with a 45-31 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers. Yep, the 49ers eliminate the Packers just about every year.

Matt LaFleur’s first season as head coach. And it was a good one.

Green Bay went 13-3, its best record in eight years, and wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the NFC. So, why isn’t it higher on the list?

The Packers had plenty of good fortune along the way. Eight of the team’s 13 victories were one-score games.

Green Bay’s offense ranked 15th. Rodgers threw for 4,002 yards, 26 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He was highly efficient but hadn’t yet rediscovered his MVP form.

This was a good team, but the 13-3 record possibly flattered them somewhat.

The Packers’ season was ended by — you guessed it — the 49ers. San Francisco defeated Green Bay 37-20 in the NFC Championship Game. Run defense was a major issue. Raheem Mostert ran for 220 yards and four touchdowns.
