Stock up: Zach Tom

Zach Tom starred in the preseason and showed why he deserved to be a starter. Following an injury to Jon Runyan, Tom got his opportunity and made it count.

The Packers’ only touchdown drive came just after Tom had entered the game.

He immediately made an impact, particularly in the run game. Tom made a beautiful block to open a running lane for Aaron Jones on a 29-yard rush. When the Packers ran Tom’s way, good things happened.

Tom picked up where he left off in the preseason. He should’ve been a starter entering Week 1. That’s especially true after his performance against the Vikings.

Stock down: Jake Hanson

The opposite was true for Jake Hanson. Hanson started at right guard ahead of Tom but he struggled. On one play, Hanson blocked Za’Darius Smith one-on-one, and it went about as well as you could expect.

Smith dominated the matchup, pushing Hanson back into quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t the only time Hanson struggled in the game.

When the Packers are at full strength, Hanson likely isn’t in the starting five. But it should be Tom replacing him at right guard moving forward. While Tom played left guard in this game, he showed his positional versatility in the summer.
