7 biggest takeaways from Packers’ win over Bears in Week 2
Pat O’Donnell provides stability at punter in revenge game
How great is it to see the Packers’ special teams just play OK? For the second week in a row, there were no mistakes.
In fact, punter Pat O’Donnell had a nice game against his former team.
O’Donnell booted two punts for 122 yards, averaging 61 yards per punt. His longest was a 72-yarder. One of his punts resulted in a touchback, but the other pinned the Bears inside their 20-yard line.
It’s a positive start for the veteran punter, and the Packers can also relax knowing he can play just fine when the weather gets colder. Having spent the majority of his career in Chicago, O’Donnell understands what punting is like in tough conditions.
With O’Donnell here, it’s also unsurprising to see the field goal unit have no issues so far.
Mason Crosby was perfect on his five kicks with two field goals and three extra-point attempts. He converted a long from 40 yards.
The Packers needed some stability in the kicking game after last season. It’s a long year, so we can’t quite call this special teams unit a good one, but so far, there have been significant improvements.
O’Donnell deserves a lot of credit for his work in the opening two games.
