Adding a safety before the trade deadline could make some sense for Green Bay.

While Adrian Amos remains a solid starting safety for the Packers, Darnell Savage is yet to find his best this season. He has made some plays but has been too inconsistent.

Coverage is usually a strength for Savage, but he has given up 14.1 yards per completion and a passer rating of 96.9 this season, according to Pro Football Reference.

Safety depth is also an area of concern.

Jeremy Chinn could help make the Packers’ secondary even stronger.

He is a tackling machine. According to Pro Football Focus, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Jalen Thompson were the only safeties in the NFL to make more tackles than Chinn in 2021.

Chinn can also make game-changing plays, having made two interceptions and forced three fumbles in his first two seasons. He also scored defensive touchdowns on back-to-back plays against the Minnesota Vikings in 2020.

Part of it will depend on Chinn’s injury. He was placed on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, meaning he will miss a minimum of four games.

But once Chinn is fully healthy, he could be a great addition to the Packers’ defense.
