The Green Bay Packers always seem to be involved in trade talks with other teams every year but nothing ever seems to happen. This year seems different given the position the Packers are in involving the wide receiver room in Lambeau.

With Randall Cobb being out with an injury he suffered during the Week 6 loss to the New York Jets, and the overall lack of production on offense so far this season, it would make sense for the Packers to potentially bring in talent via trade this year.

ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler noted that Chase Claypool is a potential target that “makes sense” for the Packers.

With the departure of Davante Adams this offseason, the Packers have been looking for a receiver in-house to step into the role that Adams left behind. So far, that hole is still open. With the addition of someone like Claypool, this could either help fill the void or push one of the active receivers on the roster into the spot Adams left.

Claypool’s career has been interesting so far. During his rookie year, Claypool caught 62 catches for 873 yards and nine touchdowns, making him one of the better young rookies from the 2020 class of receivers.

With a rookie year like this, he was primed to take a huge leap and become the Steelers’ true number one option in his second season with the team. Although he managed to keep his catches and yards around the same from his rookie season, his touchdowns fell drastically.

Finishing his second season with only two touchdowns on 105 targets, this was not what Steeler fans were expecting from their young star.

A trade for Claypool from Pittsburgh to Green Bay could be just what he needs to breakout as a true number one wide receiver in this league. He would be playing with another first-ballot Hall-of-Fame quarterback, but the difference between Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger is that Rodgers has won the league MVP back-to-back years.

A receiving room that consists of Allen Lazard, Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Randall Cobb and potentially throwing Chase Claypool into the mix could create for a very dynamic group of pass catchers for Aaron Rodgers to use in order to get back on track offensively.

Will the trade actually take place? We will have to wait and see, but it wouldn’t make sense for the Packers to not go all in.
