3 Packers who have offered almost nothing in 2022
Sammy Watkins
The Sammy Watkins signing looks worse by the week. At this stage, it would be better if he wasn’t playing. He’s offered very little on offense, but the worst part is he is out there playing snaps.
With all of the wide receiver injuries, the Packers don’t have much choice.
Watkins was never going to replace Davante Adams, but that wasn’t the expectation. The hope was that signing Watkins would give Aaron Rodgers a reliable veteran target who would be in the right place at the right time and not make many mistakes.
Instead, Watkins rarely looks on the same page as Rodgers. Just last week against the Detroit Lions, Rodgers threw a fade to Watkins in the end zone but the veteran receiver was running a slant.
These kind of errors have been consistent throughout the season.
The Packers lost Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson to injury last week against the Lions. They needed one of their receivers to step up.
But Watkins offered nothing, finishing the game with just one catch for nine yards against the league’s worst-ranked defense.
Unfortunately for the Packers, with all of their injuries at receiver, they don’t have much choice but to keep giving Watkins snaps.
