The Green Bay Packers are good enough to compete for a Super Bowl.
However, with their current salary cap situation, adding free agents will not be easy. According to Spotrac, the Packers are currently $6.4 million over the salary cap.
The front office will have to find players within their price range, but who can also make a positive impact on the field. Here are five players the Packers could go after in free agency, if the price is right.
Five affordable free agents the Green Bay Packers should target
1. RB Tyler Allgeier
The Packers did not tender running back Emanuel Wilson, and social media posts have also indicated he will not be returning next season. This means Green Bay should be in the market for another back to pair with Josh Jacobs next season.
Jacobs battled a knee injury for much of last season and did not have the same burst as in 2024, and he has a lot of carries under his belt. It is not a bad idea to get another running back to complement Jacobs, similar to the tandem the Packers had with Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon.
Although Tyler Allgeier only had 514 rushing yards in 2025, he looked excellent at times in the red zone, scoring eight rushing touchdowns. He was often the preferred back to superstar Bijan Robinson. Despite the fact that the Packers may look for a more traditional receiving back for next season, Allgeier would be an intriguing player to bring in if his price tag were reasonable.
2. LB Eric Wilson
It is disappointing that the Packers let linebacker Eric Wilson go last offseason, because he had an outstanding campaign with the Brian Flores-led Minnesota Vikings defense in 2025. After tallying 115 tackles and 6.5 sacks last season, Wilson was a key piece of the Vikings' defensive success.
Wilson is also a key special-teamer and would be an asset to the Packers' unit, which could certainly use some reworking in 2026. In a thin linebacker room, especially with linebacker Quay Walker being a pending free agent, Wilson would check a lot of boxes for what the Packers need.
He started 16 games for the Vikings last season, making a career-best 6.5 sacks while forcing four fumbles. The Packers should try to bring him back.
3. DT Sheldon Rankins
Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins was a solid piece of the Houston Texans' defense in 2025 and would be a worthy addition to the Packers' interior defensive line. While Devonte Wyatt was having an excellent year before his season-ending injury, there is a lack of solid depth behind him.
The Packers especially could use support with interior pass rush, of which they have little to none, outside of Wyatt. Rankins recorded three sacks from the inside in 2025 and also had six sacks with Houston in 2023. With the Packers still searching to fill the void that came with Kenny Clark's departure, Rankins would be a nice piece to add for both interior pass rush and run support, which were key to the Texans' ferocious defense in 2025.
4. CB Greg Newsome II
After being traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars from the Cleveland Browns last season, cornerback Greg Newsome II could be on the move once again this offseason.
The Packers have had rumored interest in Newsome ever since he was a prospect at Northwestern, and they should certainly still be in the market for a cornerback in 2026. Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, and especially Nate Hobbs did not live up to expectations this past season, and reinforcements are clearly needed in the secondary.
In 11 games in 2025, Newsome had nine pass deflections and a pick to go along with 52 tackles. Newsome is only 25 years old and would add a presence to the cornerback room that the Packers are lacking.
5. C Tyler Biadasz
When the Washington Commanders released center Tyler Biadasz, he instantly became a player who should be on the Packers' radar. Pending free agents Sean Rhyan and Elgton Jenkins are the two linemen who played most of the reps at center for the Packers in 2025, and they could both depart this offseason.
Moving Jenkins to center never really worked out. In almost all metrics, Biadasz is average to above average, while being graded 11th by PFF at the center position. His run-blocking grade ranked 12th, which is where he could help Green Bay's offensive line the most. The Commanders surprisingly moved on, and the Packers could take advantage.
