Aaron Rodgers Watch has taken another turn.
The Rodgers-to-Vikings nightmare (or dream, depending on your perspective) came crashing down earlier this week, but the four-time MVP has moved a step closer to finding his new home.
According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Rodgers met with Steelers owner Art Rooney II, head coach Mike Tomlin, and general manager Omar Khan at the team facility on Friday. While Dulac noted that Rodgers might not make a decision today, the visit is still notable.
Pittsburgh is the most logical landing spot, especially considering Rodgers' relationship with Tomlin. Even if the two sides haven't hammered out a deal, there is a clear interest.
His decision also impacts the Packers. The stars are aligning for the most fascinating of revenge games.
Aaron Rodgers is on the verge of a once-in-a-lifetime showdown with Packers in Ireland
The Packers will play the Steelers in 2025. It won't be at Lambeau Field, and it may not even take place in Pittsburgh (or the United States, for that matter). The Steelers are the designated "home" team for the NFL's first regular-season game in Dublin, Ireland.
Reports emerged in December that the Packers will likely make the trip across the Atlantic Ocean.
NFL insider Rich Eisen later revealed that "multiple people" at the NFL Combine told him it would be Packers-Steelers in Ireland.
Nothing is official, but there's a lot of smoke to this rumor. All signs point toward the Packers making another international trip to renew a famous rivalry against the Steelers, and Rodgers' decision could add a fascinating twist.
Talk about a unique game.
Rodgers won four MVP awards with the Packers. He led them to a Lombardi Trophy. Despite a messy divorce, Rodgers has still showered his former team with love from the moment he left. He would undoubtedly enjoy sticking it to Brian Gutekunst, though, by securing a victory over the Packers, the only NFL team he has never beaten.
A monumental Packers-Rodgers showdown in Ireland? That's as fun as it gets.
It's time to begin looking at flights to Dublin because the NFL International Series might soon land its most fascinating matchup yet.
