Anders Carlson's return to the NFL is poetic justice for Packers fans
The last time we saw Anders Carlson, he was missing a 32-yard field goal in the Green Bay Packers' preseason finale. It contributed to the Packers moving on and starting the Brayden Narveson experiment, which is now already over.
Rewind to the last time we saw Carlson in a meaningful game, and he was missing a 41-yard field goal that contributed to the Packers' downfall in their heartbreaking playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
In the same week the Packers signed veteran kicker Brandon McManus, Carlson has landed his next opportunity to kick in the NFL.
And it's poetic for Packers fans.
Former Packers kicker Anders Carlson set to play for 49ers vs. Chiefs in Week 7
Carlson played his last game at Levi's Stadium. He will also play his next game at Levi's Stadium.
The 49ers have suffered injuries to not one, but two kickers. With Jake Moody and Matthew Wright likely out this week against the Kansas City Chiefs, the 49ers have thrown up the Bat-Signal, and here comes Carlson.
Carlson is expected to handle kicking duties for San Francisco this week in a huge Super Bowl rematch against Kansas City.
Packers fans worldwide know what's going to happen. As we sit back and enjoy NFL RedZone on Sunday afternoon, Scott Hanson will throw live to Levi's Stadium, where Carlson, who has been perfect all game, attempts a 54-yarder to give the 49ers a huge win as time expires.
Upon realizing he no longer plays for the Packers, Carlson boots it through the middle of the goalposts. It would've been good from 70.
As long as McManus is making his kicks in Green Bay, all is good. The last thing we need is for the No. 1 Packers storyline coming out of Week 7 to be about why releasing Carlson was a mistake.
Joking aside, we wish Carlson well in his next NFL adventure. But it feels poetic that his next opportunity comes for the 49ers, considering his last meaningful kick helped them beat the Packers in January.
