The Green Bay Packers made a busy start to free agency.
After watching the interior offensive line fall apart against the Philadelphia Eagles once Elgton Jenkins got hurt, Brian Gutekunst found help by signing free-agent guard Aaron Banks. He will likely replace Jenkins as the starting left guard, with Jenkins switching to center.
Green Bay upgraded its secondary by signing cornerback Nate Hobbs, who has experience playing inside and outside. He will likely take on the nickel duties in Jeff Hafley's defense, allowing Keisean Nixon to play predominantly on the outside.
The Packers have made a strong start to free agency, but there are glaring areas they should attempt to fix before the draft. Which remaining free agents could they target on Day 2 of free agency?
Free agents Packers should target on Day 2 of free agency
Azeez Ojulari, Edge
Azeez Ojulari was a possible trade-deadline target for the Packers last November, but he ultimately stayed put with the New York Giants.
Ojulari is an ascending player and is still only 24 years old. While he wasn't a full-time starter in his final few years with the Giants, he became a talented pass-rush specialist and could immediately upgrade the Packers' defense. Despite missing six games due to injury in 2024, Ojulari still made six sacks and 10 quarterback hits while playing behind Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns.
Ojulari knows how to get after the quarterback, which is exactly what the Packers need.
Levi Onwuzurike, DT
Green Bay already needed interior defensive line help before free agency. There's an even greater sense of urgency after losing starter T.J. Slaton to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Levi Onwuzurike is coming off an excellent season with the Detroit Lions. He started 10 games for Dan Campbell's squad and could compete for a starting job alongside Kenny Clark and Devonte Wyatt. Per Pro Football Focus, he had a season-high four tackles and two stops against, you guessed it, the Packers in Week 9.
Byron Murphy Jr., CB
Update: Byron Murphy Jr. has signed a new deal with the Minnesota Vikings.
The Packers have already dipped into the cornerback market by signing Hobbs, but he could spend most of his time in the slot. Green Bay ideally needs to find another quality boundary corner to fill the void for a likely departing Jaire Alexander.
Byron Murphy Jr. is coming off a Pro Bowl season with the Minnesota Vikings. He intercepted six passes, including one of Jordan Love's in the Packers' Week 4 loss to the Vikings.
Like Hobbs, Murphy offers the versatility to play on the boundary or in the slot, but he could be an instant starter on the outside. Sign Murphy and let Nixon and Carrington Valentine compete for the other job.
