ESPN analyst opens the door to replace Tom Clements as Packers QB coach

We are all (still) laughing.

Tuesday morning, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur spoke to the media and addressed several different topics following the conclusion of the team's season unfolding over the weekend.

After a Wild Card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Packers now face some tough questions with their offseason getting started. There will undoubtedly be some changes, albeit hopefully for the better.

One of those changes, though, is going to be a tough one for Packers fans to swallow. Longtime quarterbacks coach Tom Clements is retiring, per LaFleur.

Clements started with the Packers all the way back in 2006 and spent a brief two years with the Arizona Cardinals in 2019-2020 before returning in 2022. The 71-year-old assistant coach is opting to call it a career for good, now.

That means, the Packers have some large shoes to fill; shoes which have helped coach the likes of Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers and most recently Jordan Love.

As the news broke, fans would of course begin doing what they do best: lobbying for replacements. One fan went so far as to tag a former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst, Dan Orlovsky, hinting that he should pursue the job.

Orlovsky's short response essentially opened that door for Green Bay, if the Packers so choose.

Dan Orlovsky throwing his name into Packers QB coach vacancy is pure comedic gold

"Would be an honor," Orlovsky replied via X (Twitter).

The former NFL quarterback's response seemed genuine, but Packer fans won't be able to help themselves from laughing at this.

We are talking about the same guy who once infamously and mundanely jogged out of the back of an end zone with the football in hand, resulting in a safety against his own Detroit Lions.

Orlovsky was in the process of trying to run away from Minnesota Vikings pass-rusher Jared Allen on this play, and the complete lack of awareness is something fans will never forget and continue to hold over Orlovsky's head.

Because he was simply just a backup quarterback, this is the one moment Orlovsky will forever be known for. He'll probably never be able to get people to forget that stunt, but he's done an admirable job trying.

Orlovsky has become one of the more popular analysts over at ESPN and, like him or not, he's done well for himself. At times, his takes are easy to agree with. Other instances, it's the polar opposite.

But, we do know this: he's a former pro quarterback and studies the game. Now, will the Packers take him seriously during this quest to replace Clements? We'll have to wait and find out.
