First Packers injury report for Week 8 provides long-awaited good news
The Green Bay Packers' pass rush made great progress in the team's Week 7 win over the Houston Texans. C.J. Stroud was running for his life. However, it felt like someone was missing.
Devonte Wyatt hasn't played since the Packers' last loss in Week 4. He suffered an ankle injury that initially sounded like a short-term issue, as Green Bay didn't place him on injured reserve. He has since missed three games and not practiced.
Until Wednesday.
The Packers' former first-round pick returned to the practice field, which backs up Matt LaFleur's comments from last week that he was making good progress. Hopefully, Wyatt will have a chance to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
Quay Walker, selected in the same round as Wyatt in 2022, is still in the concussion protocol. Here is the Packers' first injury report for Week 8:
Player | Position | Injury | Wednesday |
---|---|---|---|
Jaire Alexander | CB | Groin | LP |

Kenny Clark | DL | Toe | LP |
Elgton Jenkins | G/T | Glute | LP |
Josh Myers | C | Wrist | DNP |
Keisean Nixon | CB | Hamstring | LP |
Jayden Reed | WR | Ankle | LP |
Quay Walker | LB | Concussion | DNP |
Christian Watson | WR | Ankle | LP |
Colby Wooden | DL | Knee | FP |
Devonte Wyatt | DL | Ankle | LP |
Several players didn't practice for Packers on Wednesday ahead of Week 8
Overshadowing the practice reports was the arrival of former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, who attended Packers practice. Understandably, fans are excited about the possibility of Saleh joining the coaching staff in any capacity.
Getting Wyatt back is great news. He had made an excellent start to the season before getting hurt, with three sacks in less than five games. The former first-round pick was on track for a breakout third season. Hopefully, he can pick up where he left off. It's unclear if Wyatt will return this week against the Jaguars, but he is trending in the right direction.
With the Detroit Lions on deck in Week 9, his return comes at the right time.
It's too early to tell whether Walker will play this week, but not practicing on Wednesday isn't a great sign. Eric Wilson stepped into the middle linebacker role and put together the performance of his life, making two sacks and four tackles for loss. The Packers may need him again this week.
Hopefully, the four players who didn't practice will return later in the week.
