Several former Green Bay Packers players remain available in the second week of free agency.
Aaron Rodgers is among them, but not due to a lack of interest. He is taking his sweet time to decide his next career move, forcing the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers to patiently (or impatiently) wait.
Rodgers controls his future, but the same can't be said for some of his former teammates.
The Packers have already watched Eric Stokes, Josh Myers, and AJ Dillon find new teams, but some of their other former employees may have a long wait to land an opportunity.
Former Packers who may struggle to find a new team in free agency
Preston Smith
After making just 2.5 sacks and four quarterback hits in nine games with the Packers last season, Preston Smith requested a trade. Green Bay made a deadline-day deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers for a seventh-round pick.
As it turned out, Jeff Hafley's scheme wasn't to blame for his inconsistent play. Smith made a sack on Steelers debut but struggled to sustain that success. His snap counts began to drop before the Steelers made him a healthy scratch for their playoff game. Pittsburgh released the veteran pass-rusher this offseason.
The 32-year-old made only 4.5 sacks for the Packers and Steelers last term, and his best days are likely behind him.
De'Vondre Campbell
The last time we saw De'Vondre Campbell, he was quitting on his team at halftime. He made headlines for not wanting to play in the second half of the San Francisco 49ers' game against the Los Angeles Rams last December.
Yeah, that's one way to ensure no other team will sign you.
It's not like Campbell was having a great season, either. Pro Football Focus credited him with 12 missed tackles while allowing quarterbacks to complete 86.8 percent of passes in his coverage. The former All-Pro may have played his final snap in the NFL.
Rasul Douglas
The Packers' decision to trade Rasul Douglas came back to haunt them. Many assumed their season was done after falling to 2-5 in the 2023 season. Even without their talented cornerback, Green Bay rallied to win seven of its final 10 games to clinch the seventh seed before eliminating the Dallas Cowboys.
Douglas made an immediate impact in Buffalo, intercepting four passes with a pick-six in his first nine games with the team.
However, he failed to make a similar impact in 2024. Despite starting 15 games, Douglas made only five pass defenses, his lowest since 2018. He struggled in the second half of the season and earned a PFF coverage grade of just 51.6, the second-worst of his career. Quarterbacks completed 72.6 percent of passes in his coverage for 569 yards and three touchdowns.
Douglas made zero interceptions and couldn't produce the game-changing plays we're used to seeing. The 30-year-old cornerback is still a free agent.
