Jaire Alexander injury may force Packers to make a move at NFL trade deadline

If I didn't know any better, I'd say this season isn't going so well.

It's amazing how bad the vibes are in Green Bay right now. And after a win, no less!

In the wake of the Green Bay Packers' Week 8 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, most of the attention has been on quarterback Jordan Love. Love suffered a groin injury at some point in the first half of Sunday's game and was subbed out for Malik Willis after trying to tough it out.

The good news is that the Packers don't think the injury is that serious, but the bad news is that it could cause him to miss a huge game against the Detroit Lions in Week 9.

But as it turns out, there's even *more* serious injury concern with the team right now. Cornerback Jaire Alexander seemingly hurt himself on the defense's very last play of the game, and TV replays showed Alexander struggling to put any serious weight on the leg.

According to ESPN reporter Rob Demovsky, Alexander is scheduled to get an MRI on his knee at some point on Monday.

Latest Jaire Alexander injury update might make the Packers deadline buyers

Maybe this is all precautionary, but you don't get day-after MRIs unless there's legitimate concern. If Alexander is about to miss a significant chunk of time – or worse – the Packers have big ol' problems in the secondary: both Keisean Nixon and Eric Stokes have been rough this year, with Pro Football Focus ranking them as the 75th and 102nd (!) ranked corners in football this year (out of 109 eligible).

Alexander, on the other hand, currently ranks 14th. As a team, the Packers' overall PFF coverage grade is still pretty good, which presumably speaks to how great Evan Williams and Xavier McKinney have been.

It makes you wonder (or maybe it doesn't, I don't know) how active the Packers are about to be before the NFL Trade Deadline next Tuesday. Giving up the Maxx Crosby dream in order to focus more on secondary help feels like the obvious route for Brian Gutekunst, but maybe he just fully sends it and tries to pull off both? Sometimes you just have to risk it for the biscuit.

We'll get more info during Matt LaFleur's press conference later this afternoon, but it may be time to start diving into those Trade Deadline Options listicles.
