Two of the longstanding questions surrounding the Green Bay Packers, this offseason, have come about whether or not to trade players like cornerback Jaire Alexander or wide receiver Romeo Doubs.
Already, we've heard a roundabout type of update from head coach Matt LaFleur on Doubs. But, now one expert is floating a trade idea for Alexander ahead of the Packers' OTAs which are set to kick off soon.
Bleacher Report's Moe Moton believes the Carolina Panthers should make the phone call and ultimately trade for Alexander.
"Alexander has been sidelined for more than half of the previous two terms because of injuries, but when healthy, he's a Pro Bowl-caliber player. The 28-year-old is worth the gamble if Carolina can reduce his $24.6 million 2025 cap hit with a restructured deal," Moton wrote.
Trading Jaire Alexander has become a very sticky situation for the Packers
While it would make sense for the Panthers to try and land Alexander, the glaring issue is, of course, his cap hit. That's not going to be easy for the Packers and any prospective team to figure out.
This could very well be the biggest reason why it appears as though Alexander is staying with the Packers, for now.
There aren't many teams who would want to take a gamble on a player like Alexander, who has been hit with injury after injury over the past few seasons. But, the fact that he is going to cost that type of cap hit adds an entirely different layer of difficulty to the situation.
Speaking of cost, what exactly would we be talking for a team to get their hands on Alexander? If another franchise offered an earlier Day 2 pick, that feels like a no-brainer. But, if it's more along the lines of a late third-round pick or an early fourth, things start to get muddy.
Maybe, it does make sense for Alexander to stick around in the end.
But, if Carolina came calling, the Packers should pick up the phone.
