Usually, the NFL Trade Deadline is exciting. It's like a tiny little hit of NFL Free Agency, as teams jockey to try and pull off that one last move that'll get them a date with the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Fans usually end up loving the moves – unless you watched your favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys, send a fourth-round pick for Jonathan Mingo – and let their imaginations run wild.
For the players, though, the Trade Deadline can be tough. Uprooting your life in the middle of the season sounds like a miserable way to spend your time, and no one enjoys when the coworkers they actually can tolerate leave for new – and a lot of times, better – opportunities.

For instance, take Jayden Reed. Reed's Tweets have been the center of Packers Twitter attention for the last 24 hours, and for good(ish) reason. But Reed's latest tweet, sent out shortly after the Packers traded longtime pass rusher Preston Smith to the Steelers, is kinda a bummer. Who knew that two words and an emoji could be so powerful?!
Jayden Reed's farewell tweet to Preston Smith is making things very dusty in here
Update: Jayden Reed has since deleted the tweet that read, "Damn OG..."
Aw. This stinks. Ask any NFL player ever and they'll tell you that it's a business and personnel moves like this are never personal, but then you see tweets like this and realize that maaaaaybe they're not being totally honest when they say that.
Smith's been on the Packers for the entirety of Reed's (albeit short) career – and for a long while before that – so it's not entirely surprising to see this type of sentiment from him. Losing a team leader is never a fun moment, even if said team leader was losing snaps and was becoming a burden on the Packers' cap space.
There's never a bad time to have a nice, long, cleansing cry – and if losing Smith after years of really solid pass rushing production is what makes you get there, no judgement here. Maybe Jayden Reed will join you.
