Jets may need to target another former Packers All-Pro after Davante Adams trade

Would it really be THAT surprising?

If you're a former Packers player who was in Green Bay between 2010-2020, stay! In! Line!

The most predictable move in the NFL actually came to fruition on Tuesday: Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers are reunited. Against literally no odds at all, the Las Vegas Raiders finally decided to get around to trading Adams and sent him to New York for a third-round pick (that could potentially turn into a second-rounder if Adams plays especially well).

The move's a little cringey – Rodgers has a very unique way of always getting his preferred moves to happen without, apparently, ever mentioning said moves to his front office – but ultimately not all that surprising.

Adams-to-the-Jets was set in stone back in, like, March, and it wouldn't be a late-career Rodgers run without one of his old Packers friends. The problem, of course, is that there are other old Packers friends still out there, waiting to take some of Woody Johnson's money. I promise, I don't like where this is headed any more than you do.

It appears that [long sigh] David Bakhtiari could make sense for the Jets

Do I think it's going to happen? No. Bakhtiari has only played 13 games since 2020, and has only appeared in more than one game a season once over that span. His knee is beat to hell, and that's not something that offensive linemen typically have an easy time recovering from. It's not like he's a young star that's had some rough luck – injuries aside, Bakhtiari's still 33 years old with over 130 games under his belt. His "join ESPN's Monday Night Countdown" era is almost here.

Still, I imagine the idea of Rodgers and Adams back together is awfully appealing to a guy who is supposedly looking to play this season. What makes things worse is that the Jets' desperately need offensive line help – left tackle Tyron Smith's had an up-and-down season (at least by Pro Football Focus' metrics) but has already given up five sacks this year.

As it turns out, New York football fans aren't super crazy about that. Right tackle Morgan Moses has been even worse, and is currently ranked 61st out of 76 eligible tackles.

Even while playing hurt, Bakhtiari has allowed zero sacks or hits in his past 13 games.

Normally, the idea of replacing an old offensive tackle with another old, way-more-injured offensive tackle would make no sense. But the Jets don't care about "making sense." The Jets care about what Aaron Rodgers cares about, which makes them dangerous. If you don't believe me, just go Twitter search "Bakhtiari Jets." It's grim out there.
