There's a lot to celebrate following the Green Bay Packers' 27-18 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. The defense didn't allow a single point until late in the third quarter, and Matthew Golden's talent was finally put on display. Even the newest addition, kicker Lucas Havrisik, made both of his field goals. However, Jordan Love believes the team can climb higher.
"There's definitely still room to make even more [big] plays." Love said in the post-game press conference when asked about how he feels about Green Bay's explosiveness.
Love completed 19 of his 26 pass attempts, connecting with seven receivers, but it was rookie Matthew Golden who made the most of his targets. Despite only making three receptions on the day, the first-round pick led the team with 86 receiving yards while adding 16 yards off two rushes.
The sky is the limit for Packers offense with Christian Watson's return nearing
Although the Packers tend to spread the ball among their pass-catchers, Golden is certainly making the case that he should be looked at as a top option. However, it won't be long until Christian Watson returns, a player who specializes in deep routes and explosive plays.
"You add Christian Watson back in the mix and we can do some real damage," Love promised after Sunday's victory. "You add a speed guy like Christian, we're gonna open this thing up."
Watson has been out of commission since the end of last year, but excitement for his return has been steadily growing. The fourth-year receiver was signed to an extension in early September, allowing his recovery to remain unrushed and giving the Packers some wiggle room under the salary cap.
The combination of Watson and Golden can take the top off defenses, opening up some exciting opportunities for Love, who can be lethal on long-distance throws.
Packers fans are hungry for the level of explosiveness the offense has displayed throughout the last two seasons, and with Golden heating up, Watson getting ready to return, and Love eager to create big plays, it's only a matter of time until those prayers are answered. Next week, Green Bay takes on the Arizona Cardinals, who have allowed the fifth-most passing yards per game this season.
