While the Green Bay Packers are confident that Jordan Love can take them to the promised land, he still has room for improvement. In particular, he needs to work on one area of his game that's prevented him from routinely being discussed as a top-echelon quarterback.
Dating back to last season, it's clear that Love needs to hone his footwork. More specifically, he needs to set his feet when he throws, as sometimes his accuracy dies when he throws off-platform. The good news is that No. 10 is fully aware of this issue, having discussed it at length earlier this year.
Of course, it's one thing to talk about it, and a whole different one to actually fix it. Based on a recent exchange, though, Love is indeed putting in the work to improve.
Jordan Love has put an emphasis on his footwork at Packers training camp
Pete Prisco of CBS Sports attended Packers training camp. Based on his conversation with Matt LaFleur and Love himself, Love's footwork has gotten much better.
As I leave Packers camp, a few thoughts: Jordan Love said he has worked on his footwork a lot and he and Matt LaFleur both told me it’s much improved. He will cut down on the throws falling back, although he does make some good ones. Needs to be more balanced. Big year coming.

Keep in mind that even without optimal footwork, Love has played at a high level. Imagine just how much better he can be if he truly corrects it.
Earlier this year, Love was left out of ESPN's top-10 quarterback rankings. Sure, he got an honorable mention, but you could make the case that he's played well enough the past three seasons to make the cut.
Then again, Bleacher Report also ranked all starting quarterbacks not long ago and placed Love at No. 9. That's a sign that certain analysts do believe he's one of the best passers in the NFL. This is where the footwork comes in.
If Love fixes it, his spot as a top-10 quarterback won't be in doubt. More importantly, he will be able to put the Packers on his back when it matters.
The Packers will benefit if Jordan Love fixes his footwork
Love posted solid numbers in 2025, completing 66.0 percent of his passes for 3,381 passing yards with 23 touchdowns and six interceptions. However, you wouldn't call that elite production. Sure, he sat out a couple of games, but if he truly wants to be considered a top-10 quarterback, his numbers will need to pop off the stat sheet. Getting the Packers over the hump in the playoffs would also help his case.
In his defense, Love played as well as he could in the playoff loss to the Chicago Bears, logging 323 passing yards with four touchdowns and no picks. So you can't truly say with a straight face that he's the reason the Packers were one-and-done in the postseason. Nevertheless, Love will still get part of the blame because he plays the position that has the biggest impact on the outcome of a football game.
The truth is that the Packers have bigger question marks than Love heading into the season. The pass rush during Micah Parsons's absence and depth at key positions come to mind. That said, he could mask some of the issues the team has if he takes the next step. Polishing his footwork would most definitely help.
