It's no secret that Green Bay Packers fans loathe the Chicago Bears and hope that they flounder every year. It hasn't been fun this offseason to hear all about how good the Bears could be in 2025 and how they might even be able to pry the division away from the three other teams in the division, who, mind you, actually made the playoffs a season ago.
Packers fans are really hoping that the hype for the Bears this offseason is all for naught and something that could end up catching up to them is their lack of depth at the safety position. Yes, Jaquan Brisker is a great safety in the league but he's had three concussions during his short NFL career. He suffered a concussion in early October last season and missed the rest of the 2024 season.
Even with that being the case, Chicago didn't fine-tune the position meaning if Brisker misses a significant amount of time again in 2025, Jonathan Owens (a familiar name for Packers fans) is the next man up and he finished last year with a PFF coverage grade of 53.9.
Behind Owens is Tarvarius Moore and rookie Major Burns. Moore appeared in 11 games for Chicago last year with zero starts while Burns went undrafted and was scooped up by the Bears.
Bears' safety depth could come back to bite them in 2025
While safety isn't necessarily the sexiest position in the NFL, not having good depth at the position can absolutely hinder a team. Not every position is going to be rock solid and safety is often one that gets overlooked. Other teams won't hesitate to fixate on targeting the inexperienced safeties and if Brisker does continue to miss time for Chicago, teams will take advantage of the lack of depth behind him.
If the Bears have to go without Brisker for a large chunk of the season, that hype they've received all offseason could go down the drain very quickly.
