It's anyone's guess as to when Aaron Rodgers makes his long-awaited decision on the upcoming season, but for the Green Bay Packers fan base, it's still worth watching.
Without football on Sundays, this is worthy based off sheer entertainment value. And, if any recent rumors come to fruition, things could get even more interesting for Packer fans. Over the course of the last week or two, it has been mostly talk of the New York Giants or Pittsburgh Steelers being in on Rodgers.
And then, a hilarious plot twist surfaced: the Minnesota Vikings started getting some chatter in regards to Rodgers. They wouldn't ... would they?
We've seen some fairly strong reports coming from good sources that say the Vikings are definitely in the picture, but it still seems a little hard to believe. The Steelers make the most sense, overall, and Rodgers sure does love him some Pittsburgh.
In the latest chapter of this saga, NFL insider Tom Pelissero spoke with Rich Eisen on the topic and, if he is correct, then Rodgers to Minnesota seems like a bit of a stretch.
NFL insider all but puts out the flames of Aaron Rodgers returning to NFC North
"I cannot definitively tell you they're out, but I would also not say that they're in. The idea that they're negotiating with Aaron Rodgers or actively trying to bring him in are overstated. Let's put it that way," Pelissero told Eisen.
On one hand, this doesn't tell us anything. But on the other, in a roundabout way, Pelissero does tell us that the recent reports of Minnesota being in on Rodgers seem to be a little over the top. Some folks have given off the vibe that there could really be legs to the idea of Rodgers landing with the Vikings.
Here, Pelissero pumps the breaks.
Packer fans wanting Rodgers in Minnesotal, based off the pure comedy it could bring, might end up not getting their wish.
And on the flip side, Packer fans who still hold Rodgers dear to their heart might not want to see him end up with the Vikings because it could tarnish his legacy.
Then, you have the portion of the fan base who will engage in the Brett Favre comparisons and, well, that's a topic for another day.
The bottom line is, Rodgers doesn't appear likely to land in Minnesota. Pelissero clearly stated the Steelers and Giants as his top suitors, and he even threw out the idea that Rodgers might not even know whether or not he for sure wants to play football this year.
This is still a "wait and see" type of situation, as Packer fans know all too well.
