Latest coaching hires suggest Aaron Rodgers could replace Matthew Stafford in L.A.

During the early portion of the NFL offseason, rumors never sleep. But, when a few facts start lining up, it can be especially easy to start formulating rumors. Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is once again going to be at the center of many rumors in the interim, at least until he ends up on a new team.

Once a Packers great, Rodgers is nearing the end of his career and appears to want to stretch the last little bit out just a bit longer. The New York Jets are moving on from him, but it remains to be seen where he lands.

Another quarterback quite familiar with Green Bay, Matthew Stafford, might also be on the way out of his current organization. It is extremely difficult to see the Los Angeles Rams trading Stafford, but the door at least appears open for the moment.

Once the Rams gave Stafford's agent permission to speak with other teams, the door went from being cracked open to flung wide, should a prospective team come in with an offer which blows the Rams away.

Where will Stafford land? How about Rodgers? Do these dominoes potentially impact one another?

They sure could.

The Rams just hired one of Aaron Rodgers' favorite coaches in the midst of the Matthew Stafford saga

Monday, it was announced that the Rams had hired one of Rodgers' former position coaches in Alex Van Pelt. Remember when the Packers let Van Pelt go once upon a time? Rodgers was, well, "miffed" for lack of a better explanation.

Rodgers loved Van Pelt.

Now, he's with the Rams under Sean McVay. And, just recently, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that, if given the opportunity, Rodgers would welcome playing for McVay and the Rams.

This would now beg the question, if Rodgers is ultimately going to land in L.A. -- and this is a big "if" -- then where would Stafford go?

One of the top rumored teams for Stafford, right now, is the New York Giants, among a couple others. Interestingly enough, the Giants hired Stafford's brother-in-law a couple of weeks ago.

Not for nothing, this is definitely worth speculating over. In the end, it could be exactly that, merely speculation. But, these are two noteworthy coaching moves that could directly impact one another.

The stars could be aligning, as they say.

Or, maybe this is just all coincidental.

Either way, Rodgers wants to play this coming season and, assuming he's healthy, there are some teams in need of a quarterback that will likely want to give him his shot. If the Rams and Stafford come to an agreement, it won't be Los Angeles.

But, that would sure be something, wouldn't it?
