NFL insider's Jaire Alexander update is everything Packers fans begged for

Oh so THAT'S why they didn't draft any corners until the seventh round!

It truly felt like Green Bay Packers fans were going to be saying goodbye to Jaire Alexander sooner rather than later. After reports stated that Alexander was likely going to be traded or released, things have shifted, and now, at least according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, it appears that the two sides might be able to work things out.

"The Packers passing on cornerback for the first six rounds seems to signify that Jaire Alexander is staying with the team, barring a unique trade offer or a contractual stalemate," writes Fowler.

"The Packers and Alexander are working on a resolution that should materialize soon. A revised contract for Alexander, due $17.5 million in cash this year, to balance his injury history with his longtime status as an elite corner might be the most sensible play."

This is obviously great news for Packers fans because, without Alexander, the cornerback position is quite "meh." The starters would likely be recent free-agent signing Nate Hobbs, Keisean Nixon, and Carrington Valentine, but with seventh-round rookie Micah Robinson as one of the main backups. Not ideal.

Packers fans were just a tad miffed at the team ignoring the cornerback position in the draft (for the second year in a row, too) when we weren't sure what was going on with the Alexander situation. This, however, puts it into perspective a little more.

NFL insider just dropped Jaire Alexander news Packers fans needed to hear

If the Packers want to contend for the NFC North crown, having Alexander in their secondary is a must. Before, it didn't feel like a reality the Packers could face, but now, fans should be feeling relief that a deal could get worked out for the cornerback to stay in the green and gold.

Now, of course, Alexander has struggled to stay healthy in recent years, but the fact of the matter is that the Packers are a better football team with him than without.

Hopefully, keeping him in Green Bay works out and he can stay healthy and the Packers secondary can ball out in 2025.
