NFL insider provides important update on Romeo Doubs' future with Packers
What a weird year for Romeo Doubs. After setting career highs in catches, yards, and touchdowns in 2023, Doubs looked like a prime candidate to have the proverbial third-year breakout. The Green Bay Packers' wide receiver room didn't have a bonafide #1 guy – despite more than a couple options – and Doubs felt like as good a candidate as any to take over that role.
That hasn't totally happened yet (though there's plenty of time). Doubs has had a slow start to the season: his best performance so far has been the two-touchdown game he just had against the Arizona Cardinals, though even then his stat line (three catches, 49 yards) was a bit underwhelming as a whole.
On top of that, Doubs made news earlier this season after being suspended one game for "conduct detrimental to the team." It was reported that Doubs missed two practices leading up to their Week 5 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, and that his absence had to do with his unhappiness with his role in the Packers' offense. It seemed like, considering how many wide receivers the Packers have, that Doubs' time in Green Bay was already coming to a close.

Fortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case. According to some new reporting this week, both Doubs and the Packers have moved on from the incident, and the former isn't expected to be on a new team this season. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler went into a bit more detail in his latest Week 7 'buzz' update.
Packers don't seem likely to trade Romeo Doubs according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler
"Things appear to have settled between the Packers and Romeo Doubs, so I don't see him as a major trade target as of now. One source said both sides "have moved past [the Week 5 suspension] and are focusing on football."
We love when two sides just focus on football! That's the best thing to focus on!
It always felt like shipping Doubs away just because of an isolated incident felt like an overreaction – this type of stuff (generally speaking) happens all the time during the season, and most of the time it just doesn't get reported.
Doubs is clearly part of the Packers' future, and it seems like both sides are clear enough about that to not make any rash decisions. I'm sure however much the Packers' fined Doubs made their point loud and clear.
