The biggest injury concern this offseason has been centered around star edge-rusher Micah Parsons and his recovery from a torn ACL, but there's also a massive question mark around right tackle Zach Tom. Last June, Tom and Green Bay agreed on a four-year, $88 million extension.
Despite getting a big-money extension, he dealt with multiple injuries last year that limited him to 12 games. It started in Week 1 when he suffered an oblique injury against the Detroit Lions that forced him to miss Week 2. He then dealt with a back injury before partially tearing his patellar tendon in the Week 14 loss to the Denver Broncos, which is the same game Parsons went down.
Tom underwent offseason surgery to fix his knee, but he hasn't stepped on the practice field this offseason. With training camp set to begin, his health will be something to watch.
Zach Tom injury question hangs over Packers training camp
It's no secret how important Tom is to this Packers team. He's their best offensive lineman, and they need him at his best if they have any shot in 2026. And although he was dealing with multiple injuries, he was still rock solid last year.
According to Pro Football Focus, Tom posted an 83.5 overall grade (seventh among 89 graded tackles), a 78.5 pass-blocking grade (15th), and an 81.9 run-blocking grade (12th). While those grades aren't the end-all be-all, Tom also allowed just 16 pressures and one QB hit. In addition, he allowed zero sacks.
He was easily Green Bay's highest-graded offensive lineman, and they know the importance he brings to this team. Tom hasn't been able to take the field this spring.
This Zach Tom storyline could define the Packers' training camp
For the Packers to have any real shot of competing in 2026, they'll need Tom at full strength and ready to roll after multiple injuries in 2025. Seeing how his knee responds to the surgery will be telling.
ESPN's Rob Demovsky released an article with a training camp preview and listed Tom as a player to watch.
"The Packers believe their right tackle is their best offensive lineman, but he's coming off a season in which he tried to play through injuries before ultimately shutting it down and missing the last four games. He underwent knee surgery to repair a partially torn patella tendon and did not practice during the offseason program. The Packers need Tom to return at the top of his game to settle an offensive line that struggled last season."
For a Packers team that gave up 29 sacks in 2025, the fact that Tom gave up zero shows the rest of the lapses fell on the fellow four offensive linemen. There are some questions around whether Sean Rhyan and Aaron Banks can rebound after underwhelming campaigns last year.
It also appears that Jordan Morgan and Anthony Belton will be starters, leaving no doubt that Tom is the best offensive lineman for the Packers. Green Bay needs him at the top of his game, making training camp critical for him.
