The Green Bay Packers' lack of running back depth was one of the biggest issues this team has had to work around in the early stages of the 2026 NFL offseason, and the latest concerning legal cloud hanging over starter Josh Jacobs has made it even more of a priority for this team to figure out a way to bring in someone with more upside than MarShawn Lloyd.
The trade market might be the best way for Green Bay to address this issue after surveying what is a very thin crop of free agents. The New Orleans Saints might have someone who could be of use to the Packers in franchise great Alvin Kamara.
Not only did ESPN's Dan Graziano list Kamara as a player who could possibly be on the move at the 2026 NFL trade deadline, but he listed the Packers and Cincinnati Bengals as possible trade targets.

Kamara not only is a step slower than he was during his game-breaking prime in New Orleans, but he appeard to be a man without a job after the Saints gave Travis Etienne a big lump sum of cash during free agency. If Kamara is going to be an RB2 from here on out, why not play on a more ready-made contender with a less steady starter in front of him.
Kamara's best ability at this point in his career is his pass-catching brilliance, as he is still a dynamic weapon in space. With Jacobs offering next to nothing in that regard, Kamara would immediately provide a serious upgrade in an area where Green Bay has been lacking. He could also poach some carries from Jacobs to avoid overworking him.
Green Bay may want nothing more than for MarShawn Lloyd to evolve into that complementary backup behind Jacobs, but the combination of his poor play when healthy and a list of injuries that will assuredly frighten this front office have relegated him the point of being a complete lottery ticket. Whatever he gives them at this point is house money.
Kamara's loyalty to New Orleans is commendable, but there's a good chance those feelings will not be reciprocated at the deadline if the Saints start to falter. Green Bay's recent win-now moves have locked them into a very firm window of contention, and they need to maximize their talent by bringing in someone with Kamara's pedigree.
