When the Green Bay Packers selected cornerback Brandon Cisse with the 52nd overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, they fixed a major roster void. While it's just hard to tell how it will play out, the expectation is that Cisse will bring much-needed stability opposite Keisean Nixon. And with Javon Bullard manning the slot, the Packers are set at cornerback.
This is great news for new Packers defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, who'll need as many pieces to put together a stout unit.
On the other hand, Cisse's arrival all but ends the conversation about reuniting with Trevon Diggs.
The Packers put an end to the hopes of a reunion with Trevon Diggs
The Packers claimed Trevon Diggs off waivers late in December of 2025 but released him less than a month later. Then, the first wave of free agency came, and the former Pro Bowl corner didn't garner much interest. Nevertheless, he might have sent Green Bay a signal when he was spotted wearing a hoodie with the team's logo during a practice with Micah Parsons.
If that was Diggs' attempt at showing that he wanted to re-sign with the Packers, it fell on deaf ears, as there are no signs they are interested in a potential reunion, and why would they be?
A second-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 2020, Diggs quickly earned widespread recognition across the NFL for his ballhawk skills. In his first three seasons, he racked up a head-turning 17 interceptions. However, injuries have hindered the former Alabama standout, and he hasn't played a full campaign since 2022, the year he registered a career-best 11 interceptions.
With Nixon, Benjamin St-Juste, Bullard, and Cisse in the mix, the Packers have a well-rounded group of corners. They also have Carrington Valentine, although he is entering the last year of his rookie deal and could lose his starting job after Cisse's arrival. The Packers also added depth in the draft with Alabama's Domani Jackson in Round 6.
Either way, the Packers have options at corner, but Diggs isn't one of them. That ship has sailed.
