One of the hottest offseason topics for the Green Bay Packers has been the rehab and return of one of the best young tight ends in the game today: Tucker Kraft.
Fans have gotten a chance to hear from Kraft, along with other players and coaches lately, as the Packers have been in the middle of OTA and minicamp practices. Needless to say, the confidence is there for Kraft and Packers fans should be more than anxious for the big man's return.
A question worth asking, though, is whether the Packers have done enough to help support the tight end position behind Kraft. Not to pose worry over another Kraft injury, but we saw last year that the Packers desperately needed depth at the position.
Right now might be the best time for a trade in order to secure that depth, too, and the Los Angeles Rams are the perfect partner because of the plethora of talent in their tight end room.
The Packers should pull off a trade for Rams tight end Colby Parkinson
Los Angeles has now drafted a second-round tight end in back-to-back years with Terrance Ferguson in 2025 and Max Klaire this year. They've also got Tyler Higbee and Colby Parkinson on the roster. The latter makes the most sense as he enters the final year of his contract.
This would be insurance for Kraft, yes. But, it would also help the Packers keep up with the rest of the league as everyone is starting to utilize two- and three-tight end sets on the regular. Parkinson's experience makes him incredibly valuable in this regard.
Unless Sean McVay wants to keep four tight ends on his roster (which is possible), the Packers could probably get Parkinson on the cheap, all things considered. Let's say Green Bay was able to get him for a sixth-round pick swap or something along those lines. That's a no-brainer.
Adding Kraft would also help the Packers to finally move on from the hope that Luke Musgrave pans out.
Packers could also end the Luke Musgrave experiment with a trade for Colby Parkinson
This isn't necessarily to say that Parkinson would be around long-term, but he is only 27 years old and could hang around Green Bay for a while, alongside Kraft. Believe it or not, Musgrave and Parkinson are less than two years apart. As crazy as that might sound, Parkinson very well could be a mainstay as the TE2 in Green Bay.
Parkinson has never been the focal point of an offense, but he adds strong value as a secondary receiving tight end in certain situations. Just this last season, he went over 40 yards receiving in five separate games. That is more than enough for the Packers to warrant giving him some playing time instead of Musgrave.
The former second-round pick out of Oregon State is now entering the final year of his rookie deal, and this coming season would help the Packers (easily) decide which of them to keep going into the coming years.
