After suffering a disheartening loss to the rival Chicago Bears in the opening round of the playoffs, the Green Bay Packers spent the early part of their offseason figuring out whether to bring back head coach Matt LaFleur, which they did.
And then there was preparing for the possibility that they could lose defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, which ultimately came to fruition, as he was recently named the new head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
And then, of course, there was the search for Hafley's replacement, which, much to the chagrin of many Cheeseheads, resulted in the hiring of former Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon.
With the coaching staff set, at least the major roles, that is, as there could be some smaller changes still made, the main focus of the organization undoubtedly now has to shift to the roster. Green Bay undoubtedly has several positions to address this offseason on both sides of the ball, some of which will be determined by how they handle their list of nearly 25 soon-to-be free agents and any external free agents they decide to bring in.
One of the biggest concerns for Green Bay at this point has to be the cornerback position, as the trio of Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, and Nate Hobbs (plus the backups, of course) simply didn't cut it this past year. Did the Packers have the worst group of corners in the league? Certainly not. But changes still need to be made.
While free agency might be how that happens, there's also the trade market to consider. And one option in that regard could be Marlon Humphrey of the Baltimore Ravens.
NFL analyst names Marlon Humphrey as a "dream" trade target for the Packers
Recently, Justin Carter of our pals over at FanSided named a "dream" trade target for each of the NFL teams that had been eliminated from the playoffs, with Humphrey being his pick for the Packers.
"The Green Bay Packers were desperate enough for corner help at the end of the year to add Trevon Diggs off the waiver wire, so they'll likely be desperate enough to consider trading for Marlon Humphrey despite 2025 being the worst year of his NFL career.
"Humphrey could still have a good season left in him, though, right? The two-time All-Pro still picked off four passes, even if his consistency was a problem for Baltimore. And if he can't, well...he'd just be a (failed and admittedly pricey) one-year rental, so there wouldn't be long-term issues stemming from this deal."
That's a spot-on assessment, as Humphrey did indeed struggle at times during the 2025 campaign, with his 42.9 PFF coverage grade ranking 112th among 114 eligible corners. But that legit seems like a fluke, as he's just one year removed from a First-Team All-Pro selection. And there were positives to his season, as his 78.9 run-defense grade ranked ninth, while his 63.5 pass-rush mark ranked 27th.
Yes, the four-time Pro Bowler would be pricey, as he has a 2026 cap hit of $27.28 million. That said, however, there may be a cheaper way to get him, as there is a chance that new Baltimore head coach Jesse Minter makes him a cut candidate, as the Ravens could create an extra $19 million in cap space by releasing him after June 1. So, perhaps if the Packers are patient, Humphrey could be a late addition as a free agent.
Either way, it's an option at least worth exploring.
