Packers clearly won Davante Adams trade according to former NFL executive

I'll take it!

Stop me if you've heard this before, but people are on the web talking about a Davante Adams trade. It's true! And the best news? It has nothing to do with the Las Vegas Raiders whatsoever. While Adams and the Raiders continue to pretend that his hamstring is keeping him out until the exact moment that he's on the New York Jets, everyone else* is talking about how well the Green Bay Packers did to trade him.

(*one person)

That one person is Andrew Brandt, who you may remember from that time he kinda ran the Packers. So maybe keep that in mind while reading the rest of this. But Brandt's writing for Sports Illustrated now, and this week he published a long piece about why it may not make sense for teams to trade for star wide receivers anymore.

He frames his piece by looking at the ripple effects from the Miami Dolphins' trade for Tyreek Hill and the Raiders' trade for Adams. The argument doesn't totally stick the landing, but he heaps praise on the Packers, so who cares?!

Davante Adams trade is already a win for Packers according to Andrew Brandt

"The present situation with Adams and Las Vegas reminds me of a lyric from the Billy Joel song “A Matter of Trust”: The cold remains of what began with a passionate start. It was a marriage that began with so much fanfare and promise three years ago, with Adams being shipped from the Green Bay Packers to Las Vegas for first- and second-round draft picks to play with his college quarterback, Derek Carr. That was then, this is now ... In a business all about winning, it is now reasonable to say the Chiefs and Packers 'won' those trades of star receivers."

It is a little wild to look back and see that Adams was traded for a first- (!!) *and* a second-round pick, especially considering now that people are predicting he'll maybe get the Raiders a conditional fourth or fifth this year. The Raiders, man.

But there you have it: the Packers won the trade. I can see how Packers fans would get a little wary at the idea of letting star wide receivers walk considering how their wide receiver room looks right now, but we can all wait to cross that bridge when we get there. For now, let's just enjoy a former Packers employee praising the Packers. If they handle their business against the Arizona Cardinals this weekend, it could be the rare Three Win Week in Green Bay.
