Matt LaFleur takes a subtle shot at Jets after firing Robert Saleh

Let's read between the lines a little.

Wednesday brought good news for Green Bay Packers fans, and not just from Christian Watson and Romeo Dobbs' injury report status.

Wednesday provided yet another opportunity for Packers fans to make fun of the New York Jets. As every NFL fan knows, you don't really need a reason to make fun of the Jets, but it never hurts to have one.

If you hadn't heard because you were smart and muted the words 'Aaron Rodgers' on Twitter, the Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh, and it definitely, totally, absolutely had nothing to do with his relationship with Rodgers. The quaterback definitely, totally, absolutely doesn't have a history of getting coaches fired, so I don't even know why you'd think that.

The twist to this chapter of the saga is that Saleh and Matt LaFleur are tight. Like, LaFleur was the best man in Saleh's wedding level tight. So you have Rodgers – who probably isn't on great terms with LaFleur after his exit from Green Bay – making a mess of things with one of LaFleur's best friends. Seems like something worth asking about, no?

While addressing the media during his weekly Wednesday press conference, LaFleur was asked about the Jets' decision to fire Saleh during the middle of the season. His answer was peak Football Coach Speak.

"Well, it's certainly disappointing. Robert, in my eyes, I think he's one of the best at what he does. It's disappointing," said LaFleur. "When you see this stuff go on and happen in our league, it's part of our business. But it certainly makes you appreciative of where you're at with the Green Bay Packers and just the kind of leadership we have here, and what an honor it is to work for this great organization where we've gone through some ups and downs at times, and they were so supportive. It definitely makes you pause for a minute and think about that."

I'm not going to put words in your mouth here, and I'm not going to make assumptions about what LaFleur is trying to convey.

All I'll say is that if you did think that this was absolutely a shot at the total mess of an organization that is the New York Jets, you probably would not be alone. And if you did think that LaFleur is alluding to the fact that leaving Green Bay for said mess of an organization is a stupid idea and that people who do that reap what they sow, you probably would not be alone.

NFL coaches are the world's foremost experts at saying nothing while making sure everyone knows what they're implying, but maybe I'm wrong! I guess we'll never know what LaFleur truly meant.
