Well, there goes that idea.

Aaron Rodgers' dreams of winning another Super Bowl took a hit after the New York Jets surprisingly fired head coach Robert Saleh.

Saleh's Jets struggled in the first quarter of the season, falling to a 2-3 record after losing to the Minnesota Vikings in London. His head-coaching tenure didn't go to plan, but there's no doubting Saleh's resume as a defensive coach in the NFL.

Many Packers fans connected the dots between Saleh's relationship with Matt LaFleur and hoped for a potential reunion. Green Bay doesn't need a defensive coordinator, but as a senior defensive analyst until the end of the season? Why not? It made total sense.

Saleh and LaFleur are close friends and were the best men at each other's weddings. Saleh has also worked alongside Jeff Hafley in San Francisco.

In Green Bay, Saleh would have the chance to work with his close friends, help a talented defense, and stick it to the Jets by going after a Super Bowl with the Packers.

However, don't get your hopes up.

Latest report shuts down any hope of Packers landing Robert Saleh

Saleh would be a great hire for any defensive staff, but it likely won't happen until the offseason. According to NFL insider Michael Silver, Saleh won't consider any opportunities until the next coaching cycle.

It's understandable. Saleh will make a great defensive coordinator and should have teams lining up to make him offers in the offseason. After a challenging run as the Jets' head coach, it makes sense to take some time to reflect and relax. Before long, the coaching cycle will return and he will be back to work.

Hafley's arrival in Green Bay likely rules out a long-term move for Saleh. He would've been the perfect Joe Barry replacement, but that ship has sailed.

A LaFleur-Saleh reunion would be great, but it's now unlikely we will see it anytime soon.
