The Green Bay Packers have unfortunately made it to the offseason much earlier than they hoped, but the franchise must now turn its attention to the future. As NFL fans know, the offseason is all about rumors and reports, as everyone tries to figure out what teams will do moving forward. The Packers' season has only been over a couple of days, and they already find themselves in the middle of the rumor mill.
Following the early exit from the playoffs, everyone is waiting to see if Matt LaFleur will remain in Green Bay as the head coach. Early signs point to the answer being yes, as it has already been reported that he's working on an extension with the team.
However, ESPN insider Adam Schefter said on Monday that if the Packers don't extend their current head coach, John Harbaugh could be headed to town.
"His agent is Bryan Harlan. Bryan Harlan's father was Bob Harlan, former president of the Green Bay Packers," Schefter told The Pat McAfee Show. "You can just see where all this could be headed if they don't get a deal done with Matt LaFleur."
Adam Schefter names John Harbaugh as a potential option for Packers
Schefter made it clear that Green Bay is actually working to extend its current coach. However, if the Packers can't agree on a deal with LaFleur, who has one year left on his current contract, the insider says Harbaugh in Green Bay would definitely be a possibility. Schefter pointed out that Harbaugh's agent, Bryan Harlan, is the son of Bob Harlan, the respected former president of the Packers.

Because of that connection, Schefter was adamant that the former Baltimore Ravens coach is an option in Green Bay.
Packers fans aren't buying it.
This could just be Schefter exploring hypotheticals, or Harbaugh's way of talking through his agent and expressing his interest in the Packers' job. Whatever the case, fans should expect an extension for Matt LaFleur to remain the head coach in Green Bay.
We shouldn't assume that Harbaugh will be coaching the team anytime soon. Before the team's playoff loss, Ian Rapoport shared that Green Bay and LaFleur were working on an extension, and Schefter said the same thing on Monday. That means getting a deal done with the current head coach is priority No. 1.
Of course, things can fall apart in negotiations, but any scenario where the Packers have Harbaugh as an option, like a card in their back pocket, just seems to be something out of left field.
