The Green Bay Packers would undoubtedly love to keep Romeo Doubs and haven't indicated any intention to trade him, but it's time they did.

Now, the perfect destination has emerged. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams is surprisingly retiring from the NFL. It's a decision few saw coming, and it leaves the Chargers with a potential problem at wide receiver.

The Chargers need a true X receiver to complement Ladd McConkey, who primarily plays in the slot. It's why they brought back Williams and spent a second-round pick on Tre Harris.

Doubs could fill that role for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.

Packers should trade Romeo Doubs to the Chargers after shocking Mike Williams retirement

Again, the Packers haven't put Doubs on the trade block, at least not publicly. But it's difficult to see how the several jigsaw pieces fit in Green Bay.

The Packers invested heavily in the wide receiver room, using premium draft capital to bring in Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, while also signing Mecole Hardman in free agency. Jayden Reed is poised for a breakout season, while the Packers still hold out high hopes for Dontayvion Wicks.

That's before we include the tight ends — Tucker Kraft's 70 targets ranked fourth on the team last year, and Jordan Love wants to get him the ball even more.

Then, of course, there is Christian Watson, who could return around midseason.

Add in that Doubs has an expiring contract at the end of the season, and it makes sense for the Packers to be proactive with a trade rather than letting him walk for nothing next spring.

The Chargers desperately need wide receiver help after losing Williams, and if the Packers are going to trade a key starter, it sure helps if they play in the AFC.

Green Bay may find a way to spread the ball around, but the team has too many pass-catchers. This offense became far more run-heavy with Josh Jacobs, and the addition of run-blockers like Aaron Banks is a clue that the rushing attack may once again take center stage.

How can Doubs get the targets he wants in such a deep receiving room? It's impossible. The Packers should make a trade, and the Chargers may now be in the market.
