Micah Parsons is a superhero, but he won't return in time for the start of the Green Bay Packers' regular-season campaign.

As the Packers trim their roster to 53 players, they've made the inevitable move of placing Parsons on the Reserve/PUP list, as reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter. It means he must miss a minimum of four games.

Parsons is now officially unavailable for the Packers' opening contests with the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

When is the most realistic return date for Micah Parsons?

The million-dollar question: When will Parsons return?

We now know the earliest return date is Week 5 against the Chicago Bears, but that still feels like a long shot. Parsons had surgery to fix a torn ACL and a meniscus issue on December 29. According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, it requires a nine-month recovery period before he can return to football activities.

That date will arrive in late September, but Parsons would then need time to practice and make sure he's at 100 percent before returning. The Packers won't rush that part of the process as it would put Parsons at risk of injury.

Parsons has circled Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys as a potential return target, although he called it the "most optimistic" date, not the expectation.

In reality, Parsons' return will likely fall much closer to Week 8, and potentially later. The Packers have a bye in Week 11, which could potentially factor into their thinking. Somewhere between Weeks 8 and 12 feels most likely, depending on how quickly Parsons can get up to speed.

Packers will need a collective effort to survive Micah Parsons' absence

The Packers couldn't handle Parsons' season-ending injury in 2025. The defense fell apart, and Green Bay lost its remaining five games, including a playoff meltdown against the Chicago Bears. It will take a collective effort to prevent that again.

Green Bay has added reinforcements this offseason, both on the edge and at defensive tackle. Rookie interior lineman Chris McClellan and edge rusher Dani Dennis-Sutton could play extensive snaps early. Free-agent addition Javon Hargrave should make an impact, as will the returning Devonte Wyatt.

Wyatt had already suffered a season-ending injury before Parsons went down in December. The Packers couldn't survive losing both.

The hope is that with the reinforcements up front, the addition of a new CB1 in Brandon Cisse, a leader at linebacker at Zaire Franklin, and an unpredictable scheme led by Jonathan Gannon, the Packers can hold up much better this time without Parsons.
