When NFL teams have high draft grades on players, very rarely do they send those scouting reports through a paper shredder until they absolutely have to. If a guy had a high draft grade within the last three or four years, he's likely going to get a look from a variety of teams before teams leave him alone in free agency.

The Green Bay Packers are the latest NFC contender to take a shot on former LSU star running back Tyrion Davis-Price, who was a third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2022.

Davis-Price got on the field for the 49ers briefly as a rookie before being signed to their practice squad, then getting poached by the Philadelphia Eagles. He only played one game in his time with the Eagles, but still got himself a ring for his contributions. Now, he's going to try to steal a roster spot in Green Bay.

Packers bringing in RB Tyrion Davis-Price as training camp/preseason dart throw

Davis-Price was most recently a member of the Tennessee Titans, though nobody's really going to remember his short time with that organization. He signed with the Titans in June and was cut in mid-July before teams had really even started training camp around the league.

It's clear that Davis-Price is in a bit of a "last chance" sort of situation, but running backs are one of the easiest positions to evaluate, especially in the preseason. Hand the guy the ball, and see what he can do.

The Packers have been sniffing around running backs and Davis-Price impressed enough to get a shot for the duration of training camp. Maybe Matt LaFleur can do what the 49ers and Eagles couldn't, and get the most out of this guy.

If nothing else, Davis-Price serves as sort of a warning sign of what could end up happening with a talented young player like MarShawn Lloyd, who simply hasn't been able to stay on the field for the Packers. He's been out there lately, and could be another interesting wrinkle in the offense, but teams are always looking for depth in the backfield.

In his final year at LSU, Davis-Price ran for just over 1,000 yards while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. He had a solid showing in the pre-draft process and looked like he could be an ideal fit for a one-cut scheme, but it just hasn't materialized up to this point.

We'll see if the Packers can do what the 49ers couldn't.
