Packers GM gives brutally blunt update on Jaire Alexander (and it solves nothing)

And those are the best kind of updates.

With all the talk this week about who the Green Bay Packers will, or won't, draft this week, let's not forget that they still have a big ol' Jaire Alexander issue to deal with.

The issue isn't Alexander himself as much as it's the fact that neither side really seems to want to associate with one another anymore. There's been plenty of speculation throughout the offseason about how Alexander and the Packers may part ways, but as of four days until the NFL Draft, nothing's actually happened yet.

There's no time like the present, though, and the draft is always a good time to revisit some of those headline-making trade possibilities. Reporters and people around the team have speculated that Alexander may get moved sometime this weekend – and if he doesn't, he may get outright released sometime shortly after.

While talking to the media on Monday afternoon, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst once again addressed the Alexander situation without, you know, actually saying anything of substance.

Brian Gutekunst's latest comments on Jaire Alexander aren't exactly inspiring

"We'll work through that," he said. "I don't really have any updates on Jaire. He's obviously on our roster right now. We'll see how the draft goes and see where we're at at that point."

My favorite update is the one about not having any updates. As far as bland responses go, Gutekunst's hits the nail on the head. With that being said, though, the 'we'll see how the draft goes' could be an interesting little hint for Packers fans looking for one. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that sounds an awful lot like the sentiment of a GM who's going to try to trade a star player during the draft.

Considering ESPN's Packers reporter Rob Demovsky is still very much going on record saying that he's "99.5 percent" sure that Alexander won't be back in Green Bay next season, it still feels like The Big Breakup is coming. Especially with the event actually taking place at Lambeau Field, this year's draft is shaping up to be a pretty big one in Green Bay. Just don't look at the weather forecast.
