You don't get a rainbow without the rain. There's no dawn without dusk. No Batman without Robin or Romeo without Juliet.
There's no Philadelphia Eagles without the Tush Push.
Still reeling from the sting of playoff misery, the Green Bay Packers plan to steal the Eagles' prized possession. They've packaged and framed it in the name of player safety, but the timing screams pettiness, and we're here for it.
Ahead of this week's vote, the Packers have submitted a revised proposal to ban the Tush Push, and it's dripping in beautiful bitterness. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, a rule change would penalize teams for pushing or pulling a runner in any direction, which the Eagles do when tush-pushing Jalen Hurts forward.
Green Bay's reason?
"Player safety. Pace of play."
Sure, we believe you, Packers. The two P's: "Player safety" and "Pace of play." We can add a third P: Pettiness. Scratch that, here's a better one: Perfection.
NFL teams will vote on Packers' proposal to ban Tush Push this week
A decision on the Packers' proposal is finally expected this week. They certainly aren't alone in trying to tush-push the play out of the league, and we'll soon learn if they were successful in their attempt.
Pettiness jokes to one side, there are understandable concerns about player safety. While the play has yet to result in significant injury, it doesn't hurt to take a proactive approach to prevent one from happening. A scrum of bodies being pushed into each other comes with its risks.
Whether the Packers' concern is genuine or masking their attempt to get revenge, it undoubtedly adds spice to the NFC rivalry. The Packers and Eagles collide at Lambeau Field in Week 10 on Monday Night Football, and Green Bay's visitors, fresh off their bye week, will bring no Brotherly Love for their hosts.
And that's OK, because with any luck, they'll have to leave the Tush Push at home, too.
