The Green Bay Packers need wide receiver help. That's no secret.
Of all the star names they could land this offseason, DK Metcalf makes the most sense. However, it would take a blockbuster offer for the Seattle Seahawks to part ways with their former Pro Bowler.
Seahawks reporter Corbin Smith revealed that the Packers "have been open to idea" of using a first-round pick in a potential deal for Metcalf, which is a significant development to come out of the NFL Scouting Combine.
Smith added that a deal could include wide receiver Romeo Doubs or Dontayvion Wicks.
Metcalf would be a huge get for the Packers, but parting ways with a first-round pick and a player feels far too rich. And now, there are conflicting reports.
Packers insider reports there has been no contact about DK Metcalf trade
Are we on course for another Starbucks insider showdown? The Athletic's Matt Schneidman reports that "there has been no contact or negotiations" between the Packers and Seahawks about a potential trade.
Well, that's no fun.
Welcome to the wildest part of the offseason. We'll hear one rumor that this thing is definitely happening, only for another report to completely contradict it.
Will the Packers trade for Metcalf? At this point, who knows? But they shouldn't make that deal if the Seahawks demand a first-round pick and a receiver in return. Metcalf is entering a contract year, and the Packers would either have to extend his deal or accept it's a one-year rental. Either way, they shouldn't part ways with the No. 23 overall pick.
Metcalf would undoubtedly make a huge impact for the Packers. He would give them another deep threat alongside Christian Watson, which is especially important with Watson likely to miss most of next season.
He could also become the No. 1 wide receiver Jordan Love needs.
A trade could make sense for both sides, but the Packers shouldn't entertain giving up a first-rounder unless they receive picks in return.
