The Green Bay Packers handed the Cincinnati Bengals their fourth straight defeat to leave their playoff hopes in tatters. It could also push the Bengals closer to becoming trade-deadline sellers, which may play into the Packers' hands.

With Devonte Wyatt sidelined and Kenny Clark gone, the Packers have felt the void at the interior of the defensive line, and it's an area they may look to upgrade before the November 4 deadline.

Ironically, it's a reunion that could make the most sense. The Packers lost nose tackle T.J. Slaton, an unsung hero in last year's defense, to the Bengals in free agency. A trade that sends him back to Green Bay could surprisingly benefit both sides. Slaton was at Lambeau just hours ago, but the Packers should bring him home permanently.

Packers should call Bengals about a trade to reunite with T.J. Slaton, who just played at Lambeau

The veteran defensive lineman just played against the Packers at Lambeau Field, and GM Brian Gutekunst should get his former fifth-round draft choice on the next flight back to Wisconsin.

Slaton signed a two-year deal worth $15.1 million with the Bengals in free agency, so the Packers wouldn't need to absorb a massive contract. Just as he did in Green Bay, Slaton has become a solid contributor in Cincinnati, particularly against the run (ignore Jordan Morgan driving him into the end zone on Josh Jacobs' first touchdown).

While Slaton didn't play a full-time role in Jeff Hafley's system last year, he became one of the most effective run-stuffers in the league. According to ESPN, Slaton led all defensive tackles in run stop win rate.

The veteran rarely offers much as a pass-rusher, but it's his ability to help shut down the run that makes him so important.

Rookie Nazir Stackhouse, who was expected to take on Slaton's role as a two-down run-stopper, has made a disappointing start in Green Bay and lost snaps to college teammate Warren Brinson in Week 6.

The Bengals' season is spiraling into chaos, and with Joe Burrow out indefinitely, they will soon have nothing to play for. While Slaton is under contract through the 2026 season, turning a free-agent signing into a Day 3 draft pick is smart business.

Green Bay would add important depth to an area of need.

The Packers worked out five defensive tackles last week, a clear sign of their intention to strengthen, with Easton Butler of Packer Report noting that they're not just looking for a practice-squad addition.

Slaton would be an ideal trade target. Maybe a Day 3 pick swap or a similarly affordable package could get it done. The Bengals may soon have to admit defeat on the season, and trading away Slaton would help them recoup some draft capital, at least.

Green Bay would get a reliable run-stopper who has proven himself in this system. Cincinnati adds a pick. It's a win-win for both sides.
