The Green Bay Packers haven't had the most exciting start to the legal tampering period of free agency. While they did acquire a new linebacker in Zaire Franklin, they also moved on from defensive lineman Rashan Gary and linebacker Quay Walker.
One player who was also likely gone from Green Bay was wide receiver Romeo Doubs. When healthy, Doubs was one of the Packers' most consistent players on offense, especially in the passing attack. But he was going to be a hot commodity for teams looking for wide receiver help.
On Tuesday, Doubs has a new team in a Super Bowl contender, and is getting paid big money.
According to multiple reports, Doubs agreed to terms with the New England Patriots on a four-year, $68 million contract. With incentives, the deal has a maximum value of $80 million. Big money for Doubs to play for a Super Bowl contender in a relatively weak AFC.

Romeo Doubs agrees to sign with Patriots on $80 million contract
Doubs was easily one of the top wide receivers available in this year's free agency class. While yes, it was a weak pool, Doubs stood above the rest due in part to his consistent performances with the Packers over the years.
It's no surprise that the Patriots managed to secure Doubs on a long-term contract, as they already moved on from Stefon Diggs this offseason. The team has prioritized bringing in help for quarterback Drake Maye, who is entering his third year with the Patriots while still on his rookie contract. They made it to Super Bowl 60 this past season, but it was evident that they still needed help if they wanted to win their seventh Lombardi Trophy.
Back in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Packers opted to bring in wide receiver help. Doubs was among them, alongside Christian Watson and Samori Toure. Doubs easily stood out as the most consistent of the trio.
In 2023, Doubs put up career-highs with 59 catches and eight touchdowns on 96 targets. But this past season was huge for Doubs as well, as he recorded career-highs with 724 yards, 21 explosive plays, and a +27.6 expected points added, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.
Through his four years with the Packers (59 games, 50 starts), Doubs recorded 202 receptions for 2,424 yards and 21 touchdowns on 320 targets.
Doubs' production will be missed for sure, but he was bound to leave to get a huge payday. That happened on Tuesday. Now, it will be worth monitoring if the Packers add a wide receiver in the upcoming draft. Either way, they will need to see Watson and Matthew Golden take that next step to ensure Doubs' departure won't be too bad.
