We can dream, right? It's difficult to know what to believe with so many internet rumors pointing to a potential Micah Parsons trade, but what would actually force Jerry Jones to listen to an offer from the Green Bay Packers?
Jones won't want to trade his All-Pro pass-rusher to any team, but a deal with the Packers would undoubtedly be even tougher to stomach. After all, the Packers dump his Dallas Cowboys out of the playoffs at every opportunity. Jones even admitted the 48-32 stunner two years ago hurt "more than any one we've ever had."
But if we live in a world where the Cowboys could actually trade Parsons, the Packers would have a chance if they sent an offer like this one:
Packers trade pitch is so bold that even Jerry Jones couldn't refuse it
If the Cowboys' relationship with Parsons is beyond repair, trading him would be the only realistic way out. In that scenario, an offer of two first-round picks, a third-rounder, and a top-tier pass-rusher like Rashan Gary would be difficult to turn down.
Gary is nowhere near Parsons' level, but at his best, he's a game-changer. The 2019 first-round pick has 32 sacks, 77 quarterback hits, and 31 tackles for loss over his past 59 games. It's an impressive record. Gary is also coming off his first Pro Bowl season.
Add in two firsts and a third, and the Cowboys would have the draft ammunition to add more starpower to their roster.
It's a strong offer, and let's be honest: Jones would probably accept far less. Last November, the Cowboys traded a fourth-round pick for wide receiver Jonathan Mingo, who would catch just five passes in eight games after the deal.
From a Packers' perspective, it would be a bold move.
Trading away premium draft capital and their best pass-rusher while having to pay Parsons big money on a new contract? Not easy. But it would transform the Packers' defense. Sure, they'd lose Gary, but Parsons would give them a true game-wrecker up front. He'd take the attention of opposing offenses, opening things up for Kenny Clark, Lukas Van Ness, and even Edgerrin Cooper on blitzes.
Will the Cowboys trade Parsons? It's still unlikely, but if that door opens, the Packers should push through it. And there's reason for optimism.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport recently ignited hope on an episode of the Pat McAfee Show.
"I would expect that the Packers would be among the teams interested," Rapoport said. "That's the kind of team that I would say, if Micah was going to be traded, that he'd be going to."
The Packers would need to go big to convince Jerry Jones. This is the kind of trade proposal that he simply couldn't turn down.
