Super Bowl week didn't waste much time getting started, huh?
In what's already shaping up to be a crazy few days before the Chiefs and Eagles kickoff on Sunday evening, we have our first major news story of media week. On Monday morning, Browns star edge rusher Myles Garrett went public with his request to be traded from Cleveland this offseason.
"While I've loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won't allow me to be complacent," Garrett said in statement released on X. "The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns."
Myles Garrett's trade request is the perfect opportunity for the Packers to make a move
Well then! This certainly makes the fact that Maxx Crosby's probably staying in Las Vegas all the more tolerable. What an offseason to be in the market for a star edge rusher. If the Luka Doncic trade from this weekend taught us anything, it's that there is no such thing as a dumb trade idea. So, with that in mind, let me now spend 150 words pitching you on the best idea you'll hear today: the Packers should trade for Myles Garrett.
Let's start with Garrett. It's not exactly surprising to hear that he's tired of playing for the Browns, considering [gestures all around]. If he's looking for a place to play competitive, postseason football, Green Bay's got to be at the top of the list.

The bad news? The Browns' cap situation is SO messy. Like, so messy that trading him doesn't seem all that feasible – on the surface, at least. If we remember that money isn't real and the cap is totally fake (don't look that up, just trust me), there's a world where the bright minds that run NFL front offices can figure this one out. Any sort of trade would, in theory, put even more dead money on Cleveland's books, and it's kinda just a matter of how much they want to deal with.
And Garrett does come with a hefty salary, but that's the price of rushing the quarterback in 2025. His football reference page is quite literally unbelievable – if any Packers fans out there are holding onto some skepticism about the cost of trading for him, I'd suggest going to go look at it for a few moments. It'll almost (almost) make you forget about Maxx Crosby.
