Sean Clifford, you are on notice. The Green Bay Packers are poised to add another quarterback to the room following an impressive tryout.

According to Dave Naylor of TSN, the Packers are "expected" to offer a contract to quarterback Taylor Elgersma. Packer Report's Easton Butler took it a step further by noting that the Packers believe Elgersma will accept their offer.

The best part? They will steal him from the Buffalo Bills.

As Butler points out, the Packers acted quickly for a reason. The Bills had planned to host Elgersma for a tryout this week, but after impressing in front of the Packers' coaching staff, the team is using its first mover advantage to land his signature. Too bad, Buffalo.

Elgersma is a player to watch. No, he isn't going to take Jordan Love's job anytime soon, but there's a reason why the Packers were so keen to bring him in. Even if it's not this year, Elgersma has the potential to (eventually) become the No. 2 or 3 quarterback on the depth chart.

Landing Taylor Elgersma is good news for Packers, but Sean Clifford is under pressure

Let's be clear: Elgersma is a long way off being ready to play real snaps in an NFL game, but he has talent and potential. There's a reason why multiple teams showed interest, not to mention he was a second-round pick in the recent Canadian Football League Draft.

Elgersma needs time to develop, but you won't find a better team to give him everything he needs.

What can we take away from his performance last week? Well, not much — but that's not the key lesson. Elgersma was the only quarterback at minicamp and worked closely with LaFleur and his coaching staff. As Packer Report's Andy Herman noted, it's the attention Elgersma received that stood out.

"We couldn't glean much from rookie minicamp but the amount of attention on Elgersma was noteworthy. He looked the part. Would be a worthwhile pickup if GB can get it done," Herman wrote.

LaFleur said Elgersma has a "live arm," and he's not wrong. He can rush, too.

It piles the pressure on Clifford, who lost his backup duties to Malik Willis last year. Clifford struggled throughout the preseason and the Packers clearly didn't trust him to play meaningful snaps, hence the Willis trade.

Short-term, Clifford remains the No. 3 quarterback and provides value in the room. Beyond this season, who knows?

Elgersma is the complete unknown and has a long way to go, but he has talent and the Packers know how to develop quarterbacks. If they can get this deal over the line and bring him to training camp, look out.

The move immediately impacts Clifford, and Elgersma has the potential to become the Packers' long-term backup quarterback beyond 2025.
