Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has turned himself in to the Hobart/Lawrence police department and has been charged with five very concerning offenses, per Ian Rapoport. The charges include domestic abuse, battery, strangulation and suffocation of a victim, and intimidation of a victim.
Jacobs was arrested on Tuesday, related to an incident that allegedly took place on Saturday, May 23 at approximately 8:37 a.m. The Hobart/Lawrence PD has said that this is an ongoing investigation, and no further information will be released at this time.
The Packers have released a statement in response to the arrest of their No. 1 running back. "We are aware of the matter involving Josh Jacobs," the statement read. "As it is an ongoing legal situation, we will withhold further comment.” Jacobs' attorneys have also released a statement.
"Josh vehemently denies the allegations, and this matter is in the early stages of investigation with important evidence that has not yet been made public, said David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld. "We ask for fairness and restraint while the judicial process takes its course."
Packers RB Josh Jacobs arrested, charged with domestic abuse and strangulation
UPDATE: Per Tom Pelissero, the strangulation and suffocation charge is a felony, while the other four charges are misdemeanors.
Jacobs, who originally made his name in the NFL with the Oakland and Las Vegas Raiders, is in the middle of a four-year contract worth $48 million that pays him as one of the top running backs in the league. The Packers have placed a good chunk of their offensive workload on his shoulders ahead of the 2026 season.
In 32 games with the Packers, Jacobs has amassed 28 rushing touchdowns and compiled more than 2,900 yards from scrimmage. Green Bay's desire to once again give Jacobs the overwhelming bulk of the touches on offense could be impacted by this case.
This is a developing story and more updates will be provided as more information is revealed to the public. This incident is certainly a bad look for Jacobs and the Packers if what he is accused of is found to be true, and it could have a destabilizing impact on the organization.
