3. What if the Falcons didn't give up on Brett Favre?

The Green Bay Packers should set up some sort of Bobby Bonilla-like recurring gift for Jerry Glanville, the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 1990-93. It was Glanville's disdain for Brett Favre that ultimately led to the infamous (or fortuitous, depending on which side you're on) trade back in 1992.

The Packers were coming off of a year in which the team went 4-12 in 1991. Don Majkowski made the Pro Bowl in shocking fashion during the 1989 season but failed to recapture that magic in the next two seasons. The Packers saw how much the Atlanta Falcons (specifically Jerry Glanville) hated Brett Favre and they traded their first-round pick in the 1992 NFL Draft to get him.

Well, it's really not that simple, actually. See, the Brett Favre trade is really a series of "what ifs" that happened over the course of time that really makes it feel like a trade of destiny more than anything else. The Packers had made a trade during the 1991 NFL Draft with the Philadelphia Eagles to acquire an additional first-round pick in 1992. That was the first-round pick that was sent to Atlanta for Brett Favre, so the Packers still had their 5th overall pick in 1992 to spend on Terrell Buckley, who went on to have a very long and productive NFL career for various teams.

So what happens if the Packers don't make that trade with the Eagles in 1991? Is there no Favre trade? What happens if literally any other team besides the Falcons (or Packers) would have drafted Favre? What if Jerry Glanville didn't hate Favre?

If the Packers never get Favre, an entire era of Green Bay Packers history doesn't exist. Maybe the Packers would have just used that 5th overall pick in 1991 on QB David Kingler, or the 17th pick on QB Tommy Maddox.

No one wants to go down either of those roads.
