5 takeaways from Day 1 of Packers training camp
- Jordan Love update
- Zach Tom to start?
- Jonathan Garvin switches positions
A new era has begun for the Green Bay Packers. This is Jordan Love's team now.
The Packers took the field for their opening training camp practice on Wednesday, and there is plenty to break down.
Defense dominated, as expected with a new-look, inexperienced offense. Even in the Aaron Rodgers era, it wasn't uncommon for the defense to get the better of the offense in the early practices of the summer.
On the topic of Rodgers, Love revealed that the four-time MVP reached out to him with some advice ahead of training camp. Forever a Packer.
Let's get into the top five takeaways from Day 1.
5. David Bakhtiari to continue 'modified practice schedule'
The hope is that David Bakhtiari can play most of the regular season. But the Packers are going to remain careful with his knee.
According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, Matt LaFleur said Bakhtiari will have a "modified practice schedule" throughout training camp. And it's smart. There's no point in overworking Bakhtiari and risking any issues with his knee.
Last season, Bakhtiari regularly stepped in with little or no practice and absolutely dominated. It was like watching a real-life video game. Forget practice. Bakhtiari can just show up and turn into an All-Pro left tackle whenever he feels like it.
The Packers are right to remain careful with his knee. Whatever it takes. They need Bakhtiari out there in the regular season.
